Grodan A OK Starter Plugs provide complete control over plant growth and nutrient systems with our Grodan Starter Plugs.

Grodan has a tremendous capacity for absorbing nutrient solution while retaining plenty of oxygen for rapid plant growth. Grodan comes in sheets of 98 plugs. Seedlings started in plugs are easily transferred to blocks and then onto slabs, if desired. Seedlings or cuttings started in the Grodan cubes can also be transplanted into more traditional planters and growing mediums.

Grodan rock wool

I'm cutting these into ~1 cm cubes (outside because of the dust) and using them as media for some of my Phragmipedium orchids. They hold a lot of moisture for quite a bit of time. The cubes on the surface eventually get algae buildup under the grow lights, so I swap them out occasionally for fresh ones. Works really well.
